Will my insurance cover this?

Most comprehensive and collision policies cover post-accident towing as part of the claim. Call your insurer right after the tow; they will reimburse or pay direct. You get a detailed invoice with the scene location, reason for the tow, and destination - exactly what adjusters need.

How do winch-outs work?

When a vehicle slides off the road, the operator uses the wrecker's integrated winch to pull it back onto the pavement. A clean pull off a soft shoulder is quick. A vehicle deep in standing water or hung up on a steep bank takes careful anchor work and rigging, and takes considerably longer. The driver explains what they see and what they plan to do before starting.

Can you get me unstuck from standing water in Shockoe Bottom or elsewhere?

Yes. Shockoe Bottom's low ground next to the James River and Shockoe Creek has flooded badly before, Hurricane Gaston put 10 feet of water in the district in 2004, even after the flood wall went up, and any sufficiently strong summer thunderstorm can do it again. If you're genuinely stuck, do not restart the engine if water reached the intake, cranking a flooded engine causes catastrophic damage. Call and wait.

Do you coordinate with VDOT and local police?

Yes. Operators respond alongside VDOT Safety Service Patrol and local police for freeway scene work across the Richmond metro, including the I-95/I-64 overlap and I-295. On local police scenes they handle the removal, the paperwork, and the transport destination chosen by the vehicle owner or officer.

What do I need to do at the scene?

If everyone is safe, step off the road, call 911 if it is a collision, and then call us. Do not try to move the vehicle yourself. Do not stand in traffic to take photos. The operator stages the vehicle safely and helps you coordinate with law enforcement, the insurance company, and the body shop.
